Having already released "Northern Soul 2007" and "Northern Soul 2008" on Centre City Records over the last two years, I began to record the songs for "Northern Soul 2009" in February of 2009, with my long time producing partner Clive Scott, until that awful unspeakable day of May 10th, when Clive passed away. just two weeks after suffering a terrible accident, caused by falling off a ladder, and left us all devastated. Fifteen of the songs were finished. Clive and I had started the music for six more, and now, in honour of his memory, I have compiled a further seven songs which Clive and I had written for various projects but had never been released. It seemed only right that Clive's last ever project, "Northern Soul 2009", should contain all songs that he had written with me, so with a heavy heart, we have set about the task of completing this monumentally importatnt project to keep his skill and talent alive forever. We hope to finally release it at the end of August. Here, the new Centre City Supergroup, The Lost Dimensions, sing "If I Told You A Lie", a song Clive and I wrote with Ben Davis, from the group Brooklyn, back in 1996. The Lost Dimensions are Bevin Sutherland, our wonderful new discovery, who's been performing a show of Motown songs, together with Deanne Keanne and Judith Hall. Deanne Keanne has released two previous songs with us, and she first joined us for "Disco 2008" to record a song which I wrote with Damon Rochfort back in 1993 called "Right Place Wrong Time", which ended up becoming the most outrageous video we have ever made. Deanne makes her living as a Diana Ross impersonator, and has toured America and won awards. The song was written by me and Damon Rochfort and Aron Friedman, way back in 1993, for an artist called Dee Jacobee, who was signed to Mercury. Dee was a wonderful Disco Diva but her records never came out. Fourteen years later, when we were doing "Disco 2008", we said we simply had to use that song and re-record it from scratch. I always pictured Diana Ross singing it, and the great lady has always been the artist I have most wanted to produce all my life. Well I might not be getting my wish, but Deanne came pretty damn close. Then our second recording with her was a re-recording of "Footsteps Following Me", which took what was basically a great soul song that appealed to both Northern Soul and Disco audiences, and gave it new life. Deanne redid that particular song for the iconic album, "Yesterday And Tomorrow", which was probably the most dear to my heart project that I have ever undertaken. The third member, Judith Hall has also released two previous songs for us. The first, "Out Of The Picture" was on "Northern Soul 2008", and was a song which my dear old friend and mentor David Nathan singled out to champion. Out of all the tracks on the album, this was one of the few tracks that have become real sleepers, the ones you walk around all day singing, and just can't get the damn thing out of your head, come what may. Judith is just fabulous, so willing, so lovely, so co-operative, and such a warm hearted person, and it makes me proud to have artists of this calibre on Centre City Records. Her son, Anthony Jawahall, is one of the two lead singers of The Concentrations. And yet again, Judith was discovered by Tahira Jumah. Judith had been a jazz singer, but once she turned her hand to soul, she excelled and makes a perfect Centre City artist. The second song we did with Judith, "My Heart's Occupation", for the album "Soul Steppers", ended up as one of the DVD bonus tracks in the end, but my fans seem to have really taken to it. And our new albums, for the first time, are being distributed by Wienerworld, who have put out all our Northern Soul DVDs, and this time we look certain to get it sold in all the remaining major record shops around the country. A bittersweet loving tribute to the much missed Clive Scott. as similar to the music from that Aaron Davis Winter Warmth Come What May is known for the song.
